The star, celebrated for her unforgettable rendition of "California Soul," peacefully departed at her home, as disclosed by her daughter Marla in a heartfelt Facebook video.
Marla conveyed, "Hello everyone, it is with a very heavy heart that for myself and my family, I announce that our beloved mother, your beloved icon and artist, Marlena Shaw, has passed away today at 12:03. She was peaceful. We were at peace. Our family again is at peace. She went very peacefully."
While Marla didn't delve into specific details surrounding her mother's passing, she shared that Marlena left this world while enjoying some of her favorite songs.
Born in New Rochelle, New York, Marlena embarked on her singing journey in jazz clubs during the 1960s. Her career gained momentum in 1966 when she secured a performance opportunity at the Playboy Club in Chicago.
It was during her time there that she crossed paths with representatives from the Chess Records music label and subsequently signed with them, marking a significant milestone in her musical journey.
