"Scorsese Series Shines a Spotlight on Lynn Family's War Hero"

In Lynn, a remarkable story spanning over 70 years comes to life as the father of retired IUE-CWA Local 201 President Jeff Crosby, Harry H. Crosby, is honored for his heroism during World War II. Renowned filmmaker Martin Scorsese is set to capture the veteran's acts of bravery and sacrifice in Apple TV's upcoming series, "Masters of the Air."

The nine-part series, debuting at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline on Jan. 26, chronicles the journey of the "Bloody 100th" Bomb Group of the U.S. Eighth Air Force, where Harry H. Crosby served as a navigator. The story unfolds from the group's deployment in England in 1943 until the war's conclusion in 1945, with Irish actor Anthony Boyle portraying Harry H. Crosby.

Jeff Crosby, reflecting on this unique experience, expressed mixed emotions. "It’s a very strange feeling to think that for millions of people, the person on the screen will be my dad," he said. "I wish my father was still alive, because he sure would have enjoyed this."

Over the past decade, the Crosby family collaborated with writers and producers, providing insights into Harry H. Crosby's life. A trip to England allowed them to witness the meticulous recreation of an Army Air Corps base where Harry H. Crosby served. Jeff Crosby recounted the surreal experience of seeing his father's cot, complete with personal items, and the letters his mother wrote during the war.

While much of the narrative is drawn from Harry H. Crosby's 1997 memoir, "A Wing and a Prayer," outlining his remarkable survival as one of the few from the bomb group, the family played a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy of the portrayal.

Recently, the Crosby family attended an opening preview of the series in Los Angeles, joining actors and writers. Jeff Crosby, set to attend the Brookline screening, anticipates poignant moments, particularly scenes set in briefing rooms that he heard about in childhood stories. His eagerness centers on the series' conclusion, marking the survival of his father.

"(I look forward to) the end, when he survives," Crosby remarked, encapsulating the anticipation and pride surrounding this cinematic tribute to a war hero's enduring legacy.
