Henrie's character, Justin Russo, has grown up and decided to leave behind his magical abilities for a normal life with his family. However, things take an unexpected turn when a young wizard, portrayed by Janice LeAnn Brown from Disney's Just Roll With It, seeks him out for guidance in training and securing the future of the wizarding world.
Joining the cast are Mimi Gianopulos (known for Rutherford Falls) and Alkaio Thiele, who will play Justin's wife, Giada, and their eldest son, Roman, respectively. The pilot is in good hands, as it is being written by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, the creative minds behind Raven's Home. They will also serve as executive producers alongside Gomez, Henrie, Gary Marsh, the former head of Disney Branded Television, and director Andy Fickman.
Wizards of Waverly Place played a significant role in launching Selena Gomez's career and was part of the golden era of Disney Channel sitcoms, standing alongside hits like Hannah Montana, Lizzie McGuire, and That's So Raven. Although Disney's live-action comedy output has slowed in recent years, with the impending conclusion of the long-running Bunk'd, there are still a few shows like Raven's Home, The Villains of Valley View, and Pretty Freekin' Scary keeping the laughter alive on the cable channel.
