If you're feeling overwhelmed by the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I've got some fantastic news for you.
Yesterday, on February 8th, Marvel announced exciting updates to Disney Plus, adding several new MCU timelines. But fear not, it's not as complicated as it sounds. These new timelines actually make it simpler for both long-time fans and newcomers to dive into their favorite Marvel movies and shows.
So, what exactly are these new timelines? According to Marvel.com, the first one is the MCU Infinity Saga. It covers Marvel Phases 1 through 3, including the first 21 movies and various TV spin-offs known as One Shots. The second timeline is the MCU Multiverse Saga, currently ongoing, encompassing Marvel Phases 4 and 5, with Phase 6 to be added in the future.
The third addition is the MCU Movie Timeline, featuring every Marvel movie released so far, from 2008's Iron Man to 2023's The Marvels. You can explore all 31 films either chronologically or by release date using our Marvel movies guide.
As for the MCU's original Sacred Timeline, now renamed the Complete Timeline, it contains everything Marvel Studios has ever produced. This includes all 31 movies, 10 MCU TV shows, every One Shot, and even the Netflix Marvel TV shows like Daredevil and Jessica Jones.
The introduction of these new MCU timelines on Disney Plus is sure to be welcomed by fans old and new alike.
For newcomers feeling overwhelmed, you don't have to binge-watch everything at once. You can start with the Infinity Saga Timelines, which feature 'only' 21 movies. While there are eight One Shots included, they aren't essential to the experience and can be skipped.
Alternatively, diehard MCU fans can immerse themselves in the Complete Timeline, watching every MCU project in ultimate order. This confirms that Netflix's TV offerings are indeed part of the MCU canon.
Some may find these additions confusing, but personally, I couldn't be happier. Marvel has made its vast library of content more accessible for both newcomers and longtime fans. This move allows first-time viewers to ease into the MCU without feeling overwhelmed and provides nostalgia for established fans.
Marvel deserves applause for making its movies and TV shows more accessible. So, kudos to Marvel for simplifying the MCU experience, even for veterans like me.
